Knaben Via Ferrata is located near Knaben Gård in Southern Norway and offers a safe and exciting climbing experience for the whole family. The tour is led by an experienced guide who provides clear instructions, ensures correct use of the equipment, and adjusts the pace to suit both children and adults. This is a great opportunity to experience mastery together in a safe and supportive environment.
The tour begins at BaseCamp, where the family receives full via ferrata equipment and a practical introduction to how it is used. From here, you walk about 10 minutes to the starting point of the route.
The first section takes you roughly 80 vertical meters up the initial wall. The guide assists the group along the way and ensures that everyone feels comfortable. You then follow a 600‑meter mountain trail leading to the upper part of the route.
In the upper section, the family chooses one of the three final route options, based on the group’s level and preferences. The guide helps determine which route is most suitable. For those who prefer a shorter or less exposed experience, there is a clearly marked escape route after the first climbing wall.
From the top of Knabekniben, you follow a blue‑marked trail down to the main road. From there, it is approximately 1.1 km back to BaseCamp. Along the way, the family enjoys beautiful views, varied mountain terrain, and a strong sense of achievement — all in safe conditions with a guide and full equipment included.

- Instruction and equipment at BaseCamp Before the tour begins, the family receives full via ferrata equipment and a practical introduction to how it is used. The guide ensures that everyone feels confident before departure.
- Age and weight requirements Participants must be at least 12 years old and weigh between 40 and 120 kg for the energy absorber to function correctly. This is a mandatory safety requirement.
- Health and physical condition The tour is suitable for families in normal physical condition. We do not recommend participation for individuals with heart conditions, severe fear of heights, or other factors that may affect safety.
- Weather conditions The tour cannot be carried out in poor weather. Strong wind, thunderstorms, heavy rain, or other unsafe conditions may require the tour to be postponed or cancelled. A new time or refund will be offered in case of cancellation.
- Route options In the upper part of the route, there are three different final sections. The guide helps the group choose a suitable route, and it may be possible to split the group if conditions and safety allow. This is decided by the guide during the tour.
- Escape route There is a clearly marked escape route after the first climbing wall for families who prefer a shorter or less exposed tour.
